This berth was constructed during the war by the war department and it was initially called the War Department Quay.  It was built with a hand operated ro-ro ramp and had a crane used to load containers from rail wagons that had access to the quay side.  Today these rail lines are still visible on the quay side.

In 1978 the quay was modernised when the present double deck ramp was built.  The quay was lengthened by the building of a new dolphin at the north end of the berth.  In 2001 a new mooring buoy was positioned at the about 30 metres north of the existing dolphin so the berth could easily accommodate ships of up to 160 metres overall length.

With the decline in container traffic the container crane was removed in the mid 1990's.

The berth is used by the Fleetwood vessels, European Pioneer, European Seafarer and European Leader.  Up to 2000 it had been the exclusive domain of the Cairnryan vessels.
