Curran Quay is one of the newest berths in the harbour and it was opened on the 10th of May 1956. The construction of Curran Quay and Phoenix Quay was based around Mulberry harbours which Larne Harbour had bought when they became redundant after the war. A 120 ton vehicle ramp was also built at Curran Quay for use by the Preston freight service of Transport Ferry Service.

In 1993 the ramp and berth was upgraded in a 7 million pound scheme, formally opened by rugby legend Gavin Hastings when he kicked a conversion over the fingers of the new ramp. Although only single decked the new ramp was built with an eye to quick conversion to a double decked installation in the future. The berth usually hosts the Troon service and the Liverpool service up until it closed in December 2002.
