Stena Seafarer has just recently returned to service from her annual overhaul at North Western Ship Repair.  The ship was off service from the 4th to the 12th of August and during that time she received a thorough refit, including a fresh lick of paint to keep her going in front line service for Stena on the Fleetwood route into next year.

Laid out below are a few pictures of Stena Seafarer in dry dock forwarded by Michael Bracken:  All photos (C) Michael Bracken (click to enlarge)

Left: Can't beat the classic head on photo in the dock, certainly my favourite when I get the opportunity to see a ship in dry dock.  The ship is a patch work of grey primer as the painters work hard to give the rust the brush off.  The more curious of you may wish to click here for some older pictures taken by Larne Ferry Web of the ship in dry dock at Belfast in September 2003.

In these two views look closely at the name on the starboard bow.  The outline of 'European' can still be seen on the hull where the metal letters have been burned off the side of the ship.  When the European Seafarer first became Stena Seafarer at Larne on the 8th of May 2004 the European letters were painted over with blue paint and Stena simply painted over this in white using cardboard cut outs of the letters as templates - a beautifully simple way to paint on your new name, now let me get snipping, how many letters are there in Darnia?  Click here for Fleetwood vessel's repainting including Stena Seafarer's 8th of May renaming
Back later on these two pictures show the new metal letters forming Stena freshly welded on the hull over European.  Also there below that section of hull are the Stena Seafarer's previous names Union Melbourne and Puma, the outlines of which are still visible if the light is right and you know where to look!
The final picture in the set looks along the port side, the side of the ship that gets most of the bumps as she berths port side to in both Larne and Fleetwood.  During this refit Stena Seafarer's stern ramp was modified to fit the Stranraer conventional berth on Ross Pier and bets are on as to just how many Stena Line ports she will visit in their usual winter refit series in early 2005.  In her final couple of years with P&O the former European Seafarer visited every P&O Irish Sea port and served on every route, even clocking up a number of windfarm pick ups from Campbeltown.  Will she also become Stena Line's flexible friend now that she has switched companies?
