Larne - Fleetwood vessel Stena Seafarer has just recently returned to service from her annual overhaul at Birkenhead under the care of North Western Ship Repair.  The vessel was off service from her final Fleetwood arrival on the 21st of July until she picked up her run again with the 0300 from Fleetwood on the 18th of August.  During that time in dock she received a thorough refit, keeping her going in front line service for Stena on the Fleetwood route into next year.

Laid out below are a number of interesting pictures of Stena Seafarer in dry dock at Birkenhead forwarded by Larne Ferry Web reader Ian Henderson.  All pictures (C) Ian Henderson (click to enlarge):

In these two views of Stena Seafarer's aft end work is underway to service all her propulsion and steering systems.  As can be seen here the stern ramp on this ship is separate to the watertight door which is a classic Stena 1970's 'fold in half up and over door' also seen on the Searunner class built in South Korea during 1977-1978.  'Seafarer's Fleetwood based sister ships Stena Pioneer and Stena Leader just have a ramp which when closed becomes the watertight stern door.

Left: After receiving attention the port side rudder is ready to be hoisted upright and reattached to the rudder stock.  Right: The freshly repainted the bow is now quite a contrast the the marine growth encrusted 'beard' as seen in a previous picture of this part of the ship.

On the left a crew member's car catches a lift onto the ship by means of crane while on the right a number of engineering contractors are suspended in mid air as they use the same crane to hitch a lift over the dock abyss.

An angry River Mersey crashes against the dock gate Ready for the off number 7 dock is flooded prior to Stena Seafarer departing to return to service
